Boy or Girl?

Image
My internet search for gender prediction tests has been entertaining.  Many of these are old wives tales with little to no scientific evidence to back them up but they've been fun to try out.  I've decided to skip peeing in to a cup of Drano to see if the color changes but here is what we've come up with as we approach our upcoming anatomy ultrasound ... Old Wives Tale #1:  Shape of Belly If you are carrying high with a big round belly with weight distributed in the hips/butt, you're having a girl.  If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it's a boy.    I haven't noticed any weight gain in my hips or bum and my belly is definitely just sticking straight out.  Prediction:    BOY Old Wives Tale #2:   Baby's Heartbeat Over 140bpm indicates a girl while under 140bpm indicates a boy.  Our midwife basically said this was BS but  regardless, o ur first ultrasound measured 155bpm and six we...

Baby Buysse's First Trimester

Image
First Trimester Symptom Checklist: 1.  Vomiting and Nausea - I couldn't find an exact statistic on how many women experience this during their first trimester ... 50%, 75%, 85%, 90%, nearly all ... except me.  I'm extremely lucky to have not been sick or nauseous at all. 2.  Frequent Urination - Check! Every night between 12-2am I was up.  Thankfully I was able to go right back to sleep. 3.  Fatigue/Lack of Energy - I rarely felt like I could fall asleep sitting at my desk but I did start getting ready for bed around 8pm  versus 10pm.  My energy level was WAY down and I lacked motivation to do much of anything so there were several lazy weekends that were perfect for a good Netflix binge or getting in to a new book. 4.  Sore/Growing Boobs -  This was no joke, seriously.   Before I took a positive test, this was my first sign that something was a little off.  I endured 2 solid months of incredibly sore boobs and lik...

I'm on the wagon ... the baby wagon!

We are ecstatic to announce that Baby Buysse will make us a family of 3 in October 2018!  While we are happy to finally spill the baby beans, it's been fun the last few months imagining how our lives are about to change and what kind of parents we will be.  We can't help but think how will we teach our child right from wrong, how to respect others, how to always strive to be their best, and how to be kind and compassionate.  The one thing Joel and I are confident in, however, is that we are strong together and we will face all of these tough decisions as a team.  I got home from work on January 29, 2018 knowing in the back of my mind that I was 4 days late and wondering if I should take a pregnancy test.  I didn't want to set myself up for disappointment again so I tinkered in my craft room for awhile.  Maybe I don't watch the news enough or read enough articles (mostly because I don't know what to believe anymore) but I feel like fertility has been such ...

All in a Name

Joel and I got married just south of Kearney, NE at the cutest little farmhouse B&B on September 3, 2016 surrounded by the love and support of 150 friends and family members.  I couldn't have imagined a more perfect and relaxing morning with my girls, a breathtaking walk down the aisle, and the best dance party ever.  One of the highlights of the day, by far, was the Maid of Honor speech that my Sissy, Sara, performed in an incredible rendition of Vanilla Ice's classic 1990 hit, Ice Ice Baby.  It was one of the best surprises I've ever been blessed with and it was truly priceless hearing the whole crowd chant Buysse Buysse Baby over and over.  It's moments like this one that turn in to the best memories.   DJ can you drop the beat? ... Yo Wedding Party, Let's kick it! Buysse Buysse Baby Buysse Buysse Baby All right stop Grab your drinks and listen sit back relax while you hear my rendition Love has grabbed a hold of them tigh...

Communication has evolved drastically over the last 100 years.  My great-grandparents and my grandparents wrote letters to friends and family near and far.  My parents shared weekly updates with family over the phone on the weekends when long-distance calling was free.  I exchanged notes in between classes with my girlfriends in high school and conversed online in AOL chat rooms.  In college I texted and emailed and by my Senior year, Facebook was introduced to those of us with college email addresses.   Today, Joel and I have family scattered all over the country so naturally the best way to communicate and keep up on each other's lives has been through social media outlets like Facebook.  Over the years, however, the negative energy on Facebook has been so overwhelming that it has created unnecessary stress in my life.  The ads, celebrity gossip, sh*t talk, click bait, and biased news are taking over the beautiful moments shared by my friends ...
